Advanced Film Analysis/Capstone (SCMC 5002)
Spring 2019 - This course completed my Studies in Cinema and Media Culture second major requirements. We had a series of small essays assigned throughout the semester in addition to a larger capstone project. This theory-based analysis of The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) and its interpretation of the "gaze" in relation to women was one of my best pieces. |

Diversity and Mass Communication (JOUR 3741)
Fall 2018 - In this course, we deconstruct mass media using critical theory and examine diversity in action (or lack thereof). Each student has to create a presentation and lead a class a lecture based on an assigned reading.
Student Presentations: My presentation on coming out in the newsroom and LGBTQ+ community.
|
Group Presentations: My group's in-class recap on our research about the show Modern Family and how it's perceived.

Introduction to Electronic Media Production (COMM 3201)
Spring 2018 - This course was hands-on in a three-camera studio environment with rotating teams and creative projects. The projects we saw through to completion in various above and below the line roles were: (1) a reimagined scene written by a previous student and (2) an original scripted adaptation of a fairytale or children's story.
I was Assistant Director for this recreated story where I helped construct shot sheets and worked with camera operators.
I was the Director for this scene and worked with a combined crew and cast of 12 other students.

On Television (CSCL 3177)
Fall 2016 - Of the many courses I have taken in college regarding cultural studies, "On Television" remains one of my favorites. We spent a full semester analyzing and theoretically deconstructing a multitude of television programs and genres.
We were given the opportunity to write a smaller essay focusing on one specific television episode and applying course theory readings in practice for the end-of-semester paper. For that essay, I analyzed an episode of Scandal.
At the end of the term, we turned in a cumulative master analysis of one full season of a television show with a specific case in point. For that project, I chose the Netflix Original Series, House of Cards.
